Post subject:  Materials used in rudder assembly components

I am a Graduate student doing a project on Hobie getaway. I know the general details of the materials used in making the components of the rudder assembly.

Rudders - vinylester core with epoxy resin and fiberglass reinforcement
Rudder castings - casted aluminum
Rudder cam - Plastic
Plunger - steel
Tiller arm and cross bar- extruded aluminum
hiking stick - fiberglass

But in order to perform stress analysis, I need to know the specific type alloys and Plastics used. For instance, tiller cross bar is made of aluminum, but the material properties( like elastic modulus and density) of different alloys of aluminum (eg 6061 or 5052) are different.

So, Can someone please provide me those details!

That is a lot of detail needed. Try contacting our lead designer. He may be able to help: Email to Jim though [email protected]

I can tell you... currently using the EZ LOC rudder system (for MANY years now)

Rudders - Nylon - Injection Molded
Rudder castings - Glass Filled Nylon - Injection Molded
Rudder cam - None
Plunger - Plastic
Tiller arm and cross bar- extruded aluminum
hiking stick - fiberglass
