After many years, the front trampoline on our 16' Getaway is starting to tear. I found the part number for replacing the trampoline, but need instructions on how to remove the old one and replace it. Where an I discover the secrets about how to replace this vital part of the GEtaway? |

We install the trampolines at the factory, so there are no instructions for that in the manuals. We start with a disassembled boat, but for replacements there is a slot milled into the crossbar tracks. Tramps loosened, laces removed. Slide the tramp off the hull tracks and then the beam, then install the new one in reverse. Check the rigging video to see the assembly process tramp tension process. i just put in a new trampoline this year -- wasn't too bad. I didn't disassemble the boat, just fed the trampoline into the channel in the back first then did the same up the side (along the hulls). you may want to spray in some sail lube to make sure everything slides well (it will get tight - especially the last foot or so). you may also need some help - i did - to make sure the trampoline doesn't slip out of the channels while pulling it forward. having some help to make sure it goes in while you are pulling it forward will help. to rig the front of the trampolines, there are videos on assembing getaways and what patter you should go with. watch them and follow -- at first I did my own and it was a little loose. the patter suggested in the video pulls the trampoline much tighter. |

I've now replaced both the front and rear tramps on my Getway twice now (gotta love the Florida sun!). I did not have to disemble the boat. I found that it was much easier to drop the boat off of the trailer onto the lawn so that I could move more easily around the boat. It takes patience and another set of hands is helpful. I did just as "interstorm" said in his message. When you remove the old tramp you'll get a pretty good idea of how you'll put in the new tramp, just in the reverse. As you slide the sides up toward the front of the bows your assistant will come in handy to feed the bolt rope on the side of the tramp into the groove. Go a little bit at a time on each side making sure that the groove doesn't cut into the casing of the bolt rope. |

I remove both tramps every autumn and reinstall them every spring, and it does not take very long. I find that using a bit of dish soap to lube the bolt rope as it enters and travels along the attachment guides on the hull helps to make the process a bit easier. The front tramp is most easily removed from under the boat. After untying the tramp at the front, pull it out at the main crossbar (under the mast attachment) a little by each side at a time. You will see that the track along the starboard side of the boat has a lip from which the tramp can be removed. It should not take more than 10 minutes to remove the front tramp. Mark |

I also remove and re-install both tramps at the beginning and end of each sailing season. It is not a difficult job. I find that leaning the boat upright (leaning on a wing) it is easy to access the slots. Two people makes it easier..... but a single person can do it by pulling each side equally forward a little at a time. Tim |
