I tried to design one, but I had a terrible time trying to attach it under the mast. From what I can see, most of these systems make use of a dolphin striker protruding out below the mast - which don't think the Getaway has. In fact, even the nut under the mast is covered by the trampoline. In the end, I did connect a pole way by running a line between the two bungee rings - and found myself dangling from the pole at full extension, to no avail. I have only had success righting the Getaway solo with a righting bag. It takes some getting used to, but it works. |

We had our first Getaway capsize (and my wife's first capsize) last week. I was pleased with how easy it was to right, I think it's much easier than the H-17 I previously owned. After we hit the water, I helped my wife onto the hull. I uncleated the sheets, and we stood on the bow. It took a while, but the boat turned most of the way into the wind. I swam the bow around so the wind was coming from between the mast and the bow. It was much easier to swim the bow than the mast tip, for some reason. My wife and I grabbed the righting line and over she came! My wife was hesitant to lean back much, so I pretty much righted it solo. I do need to figure out a more graceful way to settle it in-it pretty much slammed down and dunked me again. A bit of a scramble to get aboard, but not to bad. I do have to figure out a way to help my wife aboard more easily. Side note-we have the Onyx auto inflate vests. Holy cow, they go off like an air bag. If you use these, rip the velcro loose on both sides and refasten a little off center so they open more easily. We both had one side velcro fail to open, so the inflated side was giant and choked us. |

While connected under the mast during travel it reached the rear crossbeam and was secured under the boat there. It was not an ideal system. I am sure someone could get one to work, but I'm most comfortable with the righting bag. |

I have just mounted the one from Murray. the main part is a universal ujoint the like was used in the first windsurfs as a mast foot. in fact a part of windsurf mast makes the pole that wil be inserted into the ujoint. this is secured to the center of the main cross beam by 2 rivets into a stainless steel bar that supports the ujoint. there are different setup possible so I will let you know when i have fully tested it. My idea is to right it solo. But I guess that I am dreaming on. |

dorienc, We had the same problem with climbing back on after taking a "swim". We now rig a "slip step" on the crossbar so we have a step to use to climb back onboard. It's available from cobrasailing.com and lays onboard until you need it. Makes life much easier...... Tim and Brentz |
