Ok, it is about that time. Time to pack it up for the season, for those of us in the snow belt.

I am lucky, I have a garage to store the Getaway in. My question, is there anything I should do before storing? I can't think of anything that would need attention. I am going to store the mast and sails in the basement and everything else in the garage.

I know that many people wrap the hulls with several tarps and some even disconnect the tramps.
This is done only if you keep your hulls outside for the winter.

Is there anything else you folks do to prepare for old man winter?

A friend of mine stored a Hobie 16 sail in his shed and found that a mouse had nested in the sail bag when he unpacked in the spring. When he unrolled the sail, he found a hole in the sail about every 18 inches. I make sure that I store the Getaway sails in a mouse proof location. The only other thing I do is give the rudder cams a shot of gear lube and prop open the lids on the coolers. ( I have indoor, unheated storage. )

I was able to empty quite a bit of water from the hulls by propping up the trailer. After emptying the water I used a blower to dry out the inside of the hulls. The water shouldn't hurt the plastic, but there are metal fixtures in the hulls that can rust and corrode over time.
