1. I noticed there is some play in the comp-tip/mast joint location, is it supposed to be more secure or is it normal to have some movement?

2. Installing the Cheata Motor Mount and 2hp outboard, are there any new requirements with boating laws or the insurance policy?

3. Shroud cable insulation covering rubbed down to the bare cable, should I buy a new shroud cable or is there some way to repair the covering?

The CompTip should be epoxied in place.

Adding a motor to a sailboat changes right of way rules when being used. Check with the USCG. I would ask your insurance agent about differences in coverage required.

If the wire is intact (not damaged) you can use tape or similar to protect the wires. Look at what caused the wear and remove any sharp edges.

Matt-

Thanks for the quick response, I appreciate it. Is there a guide (or video) out there showing how to re-epoxy the comptip for a Getaway? Is this something I should take to a dealer? I don't want to screw it up and do more damage. Thanks.

Just printed instructions from us. There may be video on the net.

From the assembly manual:

Quote:
* Getaway mast extrusion to CompTip assembly
(normally performed by dealer prior to delivery)
The purpose is to bond the two section together and
seal out water. This will also keep the joint in proper
alignment. This can affect sail shape if the fit
becomes loose.
Use some masking tape or the like, and mask off the
area above and below the joint to make clean up
easier. Also block off the luff tracks to prevent glue
from bridging the sail openings due to excess glue
oozing out of the joint.
Be prepared to use force during the insertion. Air
trapped inside the joint can prevent easy insertion.
(The small black cap just below the joint can be
removed and an air-release path can be poked
through the foam if needed.) Place the mast on saw
horses or blocks. Place the base of the mast against
a solid, padded object.
Apply the bonding agent to the inside and outside of
the mating sections. Fit the two parts together as far
as possible. If force is required, hold the upper
section and pull the entire assembly a few inches
away from the “solid object” (wall, tree, post) slide
the assembly up against the “solid object” with some
force. When the mast assembly (base) contacts the
“solid object” the inertia will help slide the CompTip
(upper section) deeper into the lower section.
Repeat as many times as necessary to fully seat the
sections together.
Prop the mast up so that the track is straight up and
then sight down the length with your eye to check the
alignment at the joint. Straighten if necessary.
Remove masking tape before glue dries.
Allow bonding agent to dry.

I had the same shroud stripping problem. I bought a can of spray on rubber from the electrical section at the hardware store and put 3 or 4 coats on it. The coating was very effective. I wrapped it with tape just to have a n abrasive resistant sheathing. I think it occurred from rubbing against the mast during transport. I'm going to keep an eye on it this year.
