| Post subject: | I REQUEST A SHOW OF HANDS ? |
How many of you have upgraded your main sheet blocks to Harken, Ronstan or Nautos? 1- How is it working out for you? 2- Is it easier to release and lock the sheet with the adjustable 5 hole feature? 3- Would you recommend it to all your Getaway owner friends? (like me) 4- Why ? 5- Has it saved you from a pitch-pole or side roll? (I thought we were NOT supposed to have the sheet locked in the jaws when the wind and waves were really screaming) I ordered a set from Nautos last night, then felt funny about spending all that money on blocks when I could have spent it on beer and been totally oblivious to the sails, sheets and blocks (actually I hate the taste of beer and I don't ever drink it) but then they called this morning to clarify the card numbers I gave them and I got that that was a sign from Hobie Alter that I should not mess with his beautiful 2004 designed boat that I got recently in pretty good shape, so I cancelled the order. Dumb move ? THANKS ! |

I have a Wave, not a Getaway so feel free to void my vote. I upgraded the upper block to a Harken to gain ratcheting action. I actually did it so I could stay uncleated more, not be able to uncleat faster. Therefore I left the lower fiddle stock. For that purpose, I am very pleased. It has allows me to stay uncleated in winds high enough to make the Wave race along stupid fast without tiring my arms so quickly. Call me a wimp but I'm just recovering from 14 months of frozen shoulder so my arm strength is just now getting back to normal. This let me play around a lot more in the early season compared to last year when I had to risk keeping it cleated in my crazy, gusty bay if I wanted to go fast. |

I up graded to Harken. Harken releases easier. It has saved me from numerous capsizes. That being said if you are cheap and never cleat the main in high wind you can save your money. |
