Flying Hull - how to hold it steady?

I am new to sailing my Getaway. But I have been able to fly a hull a few times. Right now there are two things i do when I feel like I'm going to flip: turn into the wind and stall the boat OR ease the main. What else can I do? Turning away from the wind doesn't seem to help as much. Any advice is appreciated.

When you are running, turn downwind.
When you are beating (going upwind), ease the mainsheet and head up gently.
Do you or your crew use a hiking harness?

yes you can trap off the wings..

What we have found at our fleet that helps people the most in your situation. Flip the boat. Capsize it intentionally several times. Once you are comfortable recovering you are more comfortable seeking out the limits.

When on a reach or close reach you will need to either head up or sheet out to keep the boat flat. I dunno about a getaway but like most all other sailboats it is going to be easier to control with a flatter sail, so try and keep it sheeted in as much as possible and then you should only have to ease an arms length or less to regain control. Speed is your friend.

Off the wind on a broad reach things are a bit different. Generally you will steer first, deeper into the wind as your apparent wind should be ahead of the boat and thus you will be outrunning the actual wind, allowing you to regain control as you go deeper. Sometimes sheeting out will bring it back down, sometimes sheeting in to flatten and 'depower' the sail will bring it down.

From there it is just time on the water.

Instead of loosening the mainsheet, try dropping the traveler when beating to weather. With some practice, it is more reliable to control power for longer periods even though the mainsheet and rudder remain your "stop loss" control.
