I have shear pins and I also have what looks to be the EZ Loc system. The shear pins only line up when the rudder us lifted which seems to be backwards to me. Does the EZ Loc actually work without shear pins when the boat is at speed? It also seems to me to be very difficult to raise or lower the rudders. Any suggestions?

These are not "shear pins" These are used when the boat is not in use or when trailering. These keep the rudders in the fully "up" position. This also takes the load off of the housing cams. The rudder can drop half way down while on the beach and the housing gets spread open. If left that way for long periods, the housing has a harder time holding the rudder up or down.

Thanks, then that makes sense that the pins line up when the rudder is up.
