So, last fall, while taking apart the Getaway (2006 model) for winter storage, I found that I was having real trouble separating the tiller bar from the rudder arms. Those little black rubber tendon elbows on each side were really stuck in there, to the point where I simply could not move them. I applied a little bit too much percussive maintenance (ie. with my foot) and ended up shearing the damn things clear off.

So now, I am probably going to have to drill them out and replace them. Couple of questions have arisen as a result:

1) Does anyone have any best practices about how to work these loose next time? Is there a lubricant that can be applied during setup? I can tell you how NOT to do it...
2) Does the EZ-loc system work the same way, and is there an upgrade path? Just wondering if going to the EZloc system is even an option.

Cheers

Replacement tendons are a better material, so should not cause you issues in the future.

You can change the tiller connectors without changing the rudder system. I would get the 1957 kit.
