Hi,

I have been sailing my Getaway for several yrs, but usually with a partner. Because of this, I've never had to right the boat alone. Is this something I could do by myself? I carry a righting bucket and I am ~250lbs. If so, are there any tricks or tips I should know about to make righting easier other than things like releasing the sails, pointing into the wind?

Thanks,
Fleet

At 250#, I wouldn't think you'd have a problem. I'm about 200# and can right it with no problem. I pull the boat around so the wind is quartering between the bow and the mast.

Once righted, the bigger issue is getting back into the boat from the water, almost impossible for most. I recommend a rope ladder that can be accessed when you are in the water. Do a test near the beach, tip it over (pull on a shroud and lean way out while someone lifts the opposite hull) and then try to right it and get aboard.
