This weekend we’ll be entering the 300 Mile Everglades Challenge departing from Fort Desoto in Tampa Bay Florida at 7am Saturday and Finishing in Key Largo Florida. There are about 100 other vessels entered in the race and 3 Check points along the way Englewood, Everglades City/Chokoloskee and Flamingo. This will be the 9th year in a row we’ll be entering with our Hobie Getaway with wing seats, peddle drive system and a spinnaker.

There is a favorable cold front forecasted to arrive towards the end of the week to push us along our way South.

Here’s the link below to the Water Tribe website and the Everglades Challenge tracker to follow us along our journey.

Its incredible how forgiving our Hobie sailboat has been each year since we first started sailing as relatively novice sailors and are now looking at almost 8 straight finishes in a row. Each year seems to present its own unique challenges along the course. Looking forward to seeing what this year has in store for us!

Here is our account from last year - - we’ll do another write up once we make it to Key Largo sometime next week.

Looks like awesome fun. Would love to see pictures of your peddle drive setup if you get a chance?
Thanks, Steve C.

Thank you Matt! A lot is to be said about a vessel entering a 300 mile event, finishing 8 years in a row and still going strong on top of all the weekend family camping and fishing trips. She’s a great design!

Great job again guys. Excellent narrative. Gotta admit, I loved nearly everything about my Getaway, but I prefer trimarans to single hand.
