HUh, I hadn't thought of the bob at the top. My 5.2's mast also has to be raised sideways and the base isn't fixed like all the Hobie boats because I have the old style of mast base.

I assume that my 5.2 mast is very close to that of your 17. Now i can see why you all might be complaining about the getaways.

Wait a minute. If you mean port to stbd by saying " raise the mast sideways" instead of aft to fore you may be doing something very wrong.

When lifting the mast does it ever rest on the rear crossbar?

If by saying "raise the mast sideways" you mean turn the extrusion 90 deg then it's cool.

Did I not understand?

Jeremy, its a bit of both. The lite line keeps the extrusion sideways. Placing the mast on the wing was to get it off the crossbar and over center for the winch, I now have a stand to do this.
