Adding Raise/Lower pullies to Newport Vessel 55#thrust motor

I just had to drill one hole in the top fin on the lower motor unit. I mounted a pulley there, and one at the top clamp area.
I threaded a small line between them and out to the tramp.

Now, from the tramp I can raise or lower the motor easily without leaning way over back there.
Once the motor is up or down, I tighten the shaft screw. Once that is done, there is no weight on the raise/lower line. You can just loosely tie off the line to keep it out of the prop.

This makes the motor really easy to put in and out of service.

I hacked together a motor mount from an old cheata mount and a piece of aluminum square tube.
I cut the bottom off the cheata because it was hitting the water and slowing the boat down. I kept only what I needed to support the new aluminum tube.

I also riveted a flat piece of aluminum onto the side of the tube to give more area for the motor to clamp onto.

I usually only need the motor to get out of a tight ramp/harbor area, 3 - 5 minutes each way. Then I want the motor totally out of the water. In my case, I have to do a final (quick) tilt to get the motor totally dry (see tilt picture), but if my aluminum arm were a little higher even that wouldn't be necessary.
