Post subject:  4 newbie questions

Hi,

I just bought a used Getaway and have learned alot from reading this forum, particularly on mounting a motor. I have 3 questions:
1. My son eagerly pulled the autofurling line and now it has no recoil. Since I' m new to the boat, I'm not sure how it worked. Is there detailed info on the autofurler somewhere? The manual didn't provide much.

2. what tools do experienced Getaway sailors carry with them?

3. I have to register my boat in NY state now that I have an outboard. I have the bill of sale but I need a Coast Guard form CG-1270. the CG site is challenging. Does anyone know where I find this form (not Getaway specific of course, but a problem for me.)?

Thanks

Jeff

First, your post is labeled 4 questions yet you only asked 3 LOL.

1) The furler is not an automatic system. You pull on the furling line to wind in the jib. You pull the jib sheets to unwind the jib. If the furling line is unwound and the jib is out, just manually roll the job. Then when you unwind the jib, the furler will wind in the line. Does that make sense?

2) I don't really carry any tools. Read through the posts, this is been discussed before.

3) No idea about NY. Found this on google. http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/forms/mv821b.pdf

In the unlikely event that you would need spare bits, it's handy to carry small parts such as pins and the like. If you want to go offshore, an epirb could come in handy but they are expensive.
