I have a 96 Classic Wave which I bought used. The boat didn't come with any teflon chips to put between the mast and base, and the manual doesn't mention them. However, the Hobie Parts catalog has them for a Wave. Is it a good idea to get them, or is that particular model designed not to need them?

I would get them. My 95 Wave either didn't come with them or they were lost during assembly at the dealer... that was in '95 when the Wave first came out. Anyway I didn't know I needed until after I had had the boat out a few times. When I found out I got some right away. They make a huge difference in the ease of the mast rotating and will definitely save wear and tear on the metal to metal components. Mine have lasted a long long time.
