Post subject:  how to carry a hobie wave mast on a car roof

I would like to buy a used hobie wave (from 2001) without the trailer. I have a Honda Odyssey with a roof-rack. Can I safely carry the mast on the roof? I am really looking forward to your advise.

Best regards,

Tomek

Go For It, I would check out your roof rack weight capacity. Maby cushion the roof where it may rub and some sort of cat trax to get you to the water. Sounds like fun 8)

I am worried that the mast is going to be too long to carry on a roof rack. Did anyone try this? Any problems with that?

Mast is 20' I think your Honda Odyssey is around 17' split the diff or keep the 3' in front to keep a eye on it. I still think its with in reason. Try it if you don't like it get a trailer.

Wave masts are two piece. Take it apart and carry the two parts side by side.

I was hoping this is the case! Thanks for you replies.

Do I need any special tools to split the mast? I am asking because I will drive a bit to get the hobie, I do not want to be caught unprepared...

I cartop the wave on a VW Passat or a utility trailer. The masts split by pulling them apart, no tools. I put the masts down the middle and the hulls on either side.
