I just got over 8,000 views on this Hobie Wave video!

I think Hobie should give me a T2 so I can give it some FREE video advertising. Just a thought

Agreed... more rake aft for heavier air to limit pitch pole. Same as a windsurfer... upright in lighter air and leaning further and further aft as the wind increases until the boom is nearly dragging for max speed. Move weight as far aft as possible at the same time.

How much rake are we talking about here?

Is this measured in degrees?

This coming summer, when the wind is hard off shore at Lake Mead, Nevada, I'll get one of the rangers to run his radar gun on what is a primo flat water beach reach. Perhaps with a gopro to boot. Will post then as have been wanting to do it for some time.

Gordo
I assume you'll have someone that has some measure of skill to sail your boat for you for this test right?

I know this is an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one to ask this question. With all things being equal, should a wave be faster than a sunfish?

absolutely no doubt. Albeit, the Sunfish may be faster in very light conditions with a light sailor. I've sailed the Wave in local lead keel regattas for practice and at 12k and above, the Wave beats most all boats except J's, which loose ground in anything over 14k. The 9 meters of sail on a Wave make it slow in light air, but as winds increase it transforms into an extremely fast craft, especially in flatter conditions.
