Post subject:  knot for the jib sheet

I have the jib option on our Wave. Following the suggestion of our dealer, I run the jib sheet in a continuous loop thru the both blocks, attaching the two ends of the sheet to the clew with bowlines.

On Monday, while sailing, one of these knots came undone. This has happened before. Am I perhaps not tying a good bowline or is this not the best knot to use here?

I could have the ends of the sheet come out the aft side of the blocks but I like the continuous loop.

Thanks.

-Pete

I put the knot at the aft end, no worries! But talking about jibs I list my jib shackle (the pin doesn't come out, lever locks in) called Hobie dealer sent be a regular anchor shackle, what is the name and where can I get another? Not that the one they sent doesn't work just want to keep it stock and less to loose!

Can you tell me how much additional speed you obtained with the jib on your wave? I am fitting my new wave with a jib kit and thinking about what's ahead.

Most marine stores would carry a selection of shackles.

the trouble I had when putting a shackle on the jib that it become a rather big force when the jib is flapping in the wind for what ever reason the jib might flap in the wind violently. Matt just said get rid of the shackle and attach the jib by the middle of the line and then tie your two ends together back after the cleats.
