I just found this video about how to set up the mast on a Hobie Wave, with just one person.
I have tried it and thought it looked good enough to pass on to everyone.
It did work really well.

My question has anyone hooked their jib to their forestay (I believe that is where the Auzzie hooked his jib to) and does it help the sailing with the jib?

The video is interesting, but I don't see how it's any easier than the standard method, as described in the owner's manual. His use of Quick Pins on the shrouds is a little scary to me, but they will make anything "look" easier.

I've never had any problems at all with stepping the mast solo, and I'm certainly no "Charles Atlas". Just tie the bitter end of the halyard to the base of the bridle's 7-hole adjuster, lift the mast to your shoulder, walk to the front of the tramp, cleat the halyard on the mast and then pin the forestay. What's the difficult part of that?

both ways are good ones to raise the mast single-handed...
the jib helps add a little to the performance of the wave, with the jib you will be able to point better.
