I know that motorboats are under the same guidelines as cars when it comes to drinking (I think) in other words DUI, but are sailboats?

Discretionary. Better not to.

It often shows up in the news about an Amish person getting stopped for DUI in a buggy or on horseback, or an invalid getting picked up in a Rascal or electric wheelchair, or a repeat-offender on his lawnmower (cause that's all he has left). So I think you can be charged with DUI in or on anything.

It is illegal to operate a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs in every state. The Coast Guard also enforces a federal law that prohibits BUI. This law pertains to ALL boats (from canoes and rowboats to the largest ships) — and includes foreign vessels that operate in U.S. waters, as well as U.S. vessels on the high seas.

Not a good idea, but i read that BUI hitting your driving record, at least in California has been challenged. You are not required to have any license to operate a boat, so linking a BUI to driving made no legal sense, you could use any legal ID. Does anyone know how this challenge ended?

If you don't do anything Stupid, then they usually won't bother you....Screw up though, and it gives them a good excuse to get you.......Also, it helps if you put your favorite beverage in a Water bottle or Camel Back....

Louisiana (where it is assumed that pretty much any boat has plenty beer on it) :D

Almost certainly. Aussie DUI laws are tougher than US laws, and you need an operator's license to drive a powerboat in Oz (just like Canada).
