Most of the install is done, just waiting for a larger rivet tool for the 1/4 inch rivets on the mast tang. It was mentioned above that the chain plate is an option for mounting the sheeting blocks but I believe that is a custom rig and will not work on Rick White's Hooter system. You must mount them further back. And even though I installed hatches for mounting the blocks, I may just attach the blocks to the rear crossbar. I found a mounting pad that is elliptical on one side, flat on the other. It works great for mounting anything to the Wave crossbar including the cleats and fairleads that come with the Hooter. |

If you need to sheet farther back than the chainplate then you are using a dated design for the sail or you need a longer pole. Modern technology for cat spinnakers is for less overlap. |

Rick, let us know what you think of the hooter setup once you get it on the water. I'm seriously think of going the same route and want to hear your opinion. |

Rick that picture of you sitting on the boat made me think......here are your thoughts...."My God, what have I done? Do I have the balls to sail this by myself? Is my wife right? OMG". Big LOL, you are going to kick some serious ass with that hooter. |

But guys, If I have a look to the pics and to the video how on earth is it possible to keep control about the boat as it will always move to windwards when the wind gets stronger....And also if some bigger gusts bring you into trouble and you are sitting on the hull, how can you release the hooter so that you do not capsize..... Seems to be a good solution for very low winds but in stronger gusts you will not reach the furling line in time... also i think there should be also a trapez kit to compensate the forces better for more speed... I've sailed with the hooter the last 2 days and enjoyed the extra power. At the very least you gain 25%. Worked well at all points of sail, especially downwind where waves need the most help. Tacking and jibing were another story. There is a lot of sail that needs to clear rigging on it's way to the other side and tends to hang up. I will try furling the sail before tacking and jibing next time out. I'm in the process of shortning some of the lines as the kit comes with more than you need. Part of my problem with tacking and jibing was me sitting on all that extra line. I'm sure things will smooth out once I eliminate all the user error. |

How does it affect your upwind tacking? Can you get as close to the wind as you did before? |

I'm not sure, but I think I pointed a bit higher with the hooter. Upwind tacking was good until I actually tacked. Like I said, there is a lot of sail to clear. I usually sail with my wife, so when she crews tacking and jibing will smooth out. Until then, I will continue to furl the sail ahead of time. |

I assume only the rope in back is the issue...and the sail gets stuck on the mast like the H16's (annoying). Do you have a rope on both sides of the boat (like the jib has, on a h16 anyhow) so you can leave the leeward rope loose and pull in the windward rope? |

Maybe Hobie should simply make the jib larger. Since it does not come standard with the boat, new sailors won't have/buy one, so why not make it useful. |

5th time out on Erie. Today was a really low wind day, went about 200 yards and turned around. Here's my take so far. When I've been in heavy wind with the hooter furled it was not in the way or holding me back in any way. Today it helped me harness the little wind that was there. On the 5-10 mph days you will love it. |
