I just bought a 1999 Wave. It didn't come with a sail so I am going to buy one. What's a good place to get them?
Another topic. Should I also buy the jib kit? I never sailed with a jib and frankly I don't know what it's for. What is it for? Do I need one? Is it to much stuff to worry about for a beginner sailor?

You do NOT need a jib on a Wave.

Id go with hobie sails, cause they have a tendency to last 20+ years.

Yeah you don't need a jib, but once you feel you have mastered the boat and want a little more speed, you may want one. They really make tacking easier.

I like using my jib, you don't need it, but it is great to have for many reasons! 8)

I have several nice Wave sails for sale.

Hobie Wave Sail ~ SOLD

I also have this North (Bossett) racing sail that I won the IWCA nationals with in 2009.

I will sell it for $600 plus $100 for RBS battens, shipping not included.

I also have a virtually unused jib kit which includes the sail (blue) sheets and cam cleats, and halyard. $150.

I too bought a boat without a Hobie sail. And I'm thinking about the NAs in October. But I need a legal Hobie sail. I have a new North (Bosset), like you. I'd really like white sail. But since I just bought this North and I'm concerned about the long term viability of a place to use it. Whatcha got?

Some questions about current sail tech
I left the crew on race keel boats behind myself 12 years ago. At that time the 'shaped sail' concept just got started. Never gave it much thought over the years but it does make sense that a pre-shaped sail will be far more efficient than the old Dacron and batten concept.
Has anyone given that any thought for older Waves that need a sail replacement?
Just a thought. I'm happy with what I bought (as I can tell a sail's age by the color as an imaging expert).
Brown may not be your fave color, but if it blows the comp out of the water - who cares?
Cheers
Tri
