Post subject:  Wave backrests attachment method

Bought a used Wave with backrests. The previous owner created a method to use 4 screws which go through the top of the hulls and into the backrests once slide in place. The design concept was ok but the threaded area on the aluminum was so small that after a few years of sailing the threads are shot and I can no longer tighten the screws.

Question, how are the backrests intended to be kept in place via the Hobie manual which I do not have. I do remove the backrests each Fall for storage of the boat.

Thanks

I use 1/4" pins, approximately 2" long, with a finger ring for removal. You can purchase 1/4" stainless steel pins or make them out of aluminum. Each of the 4 pins are captured, on the finger ring, with small diameter black shock cord around each of the 4 ends of the backrest tubes.

You, obviously, have to drill out (carefully) the hole on the top of the hull......and through the (inserted) backrest. Be careful not to oversize the holes.

cooldudecaptain - sent u an email with a few questions. Looking for a picture or sketch of this setup. I have 1/4" aluminum rod but need a visual on where the shock cord comes into play.

Thanks
