| Post subject: | Forestay bridle coming out of bows |
Each bow on my wave has a stainless steel eyestrap that the forestay bridle is connected to. Last weekend, I noticed that these are loosening and the bolts or screws that hold them to the bow are about an 1/8-1/4 inch proud of the hull. How are these attached? How can I repair or tighten them safely? A dismasting at sea can ruin you whole day. Thanks, Jeff Long Island NY |

The bottom of the eye strap should be flush to the deck if the screws are tight. If the screws are tight, but the strap is not flush, it's time for a visit to your dealer. If you can get the straps tight to the deck, then it's time for some Loctite. Part of the assembly process is blue Loctite liberally applied to the threads of the screws holding the straps in. Perhaps someone forgot or maybe there's a vandal where you store your boat. Remove the screws one at a time and apply blue Loctite. Give it time to dry (overnight should be fine). Brian C |

Thanks for the reply. What type of backing plate or mounting do the screws or bolts go to? I would imagine a stainless steel backing plate with some nuts welded on for the screws to go to....but perhaps that is not the case. So, if I understand your reply, my fix would be to loosen the screws a bit further, apply some loctite, and retighten until the fitting is flush with the deck. It that about right? Fair winds, Jeff |

There are two brass inserts molded into the bow of each hull. The fix is to first check if the screws are tight. If they are, take the boat to the dealer. If they are loose, fully remove, goop with blue loctite, reinstall. When properly install, the eyestraps should be pulled tight against the deck with no "wiggle" in the eyestrap. Brian C |
