Post subject:  Fixing a problem with the cloth sleeves on my back rest

I am a new Wave owner, and also brand new to this forum. I'm seeking advice about how to solve what I suspect is a problem for every other Wave owner with back rests installed. The sleeves covering the padding on the back rests slide off the back and over the rear curve in the tubing, and I'm getting tired of readjusting them all the time.

I've thought about small bungees at each end of the sleeves, but I doubt they would prevent the slide... maybe only reduce the sliding.

I've also considered cutting the foam padding to be shorter than the sleeve material, then hemming in a tunnel with a cord in it at each end, which could be pulled tight over each end of the padding to keep the sleeve from moving. That's a lot of work though, and I'm not up to doing the sowing myself.

What are your thoughts and suggestions?

This is a guess without a picture, but, maybe try a shot from a hot glue gun at each end?

I'm surprised at this. Original covers or after market supplied? They use a velcro closure which should allow you to tighten around the foam. Maybe simply bulk up the bar inside the foam at the ends to expand the foam out to the cover for a tighter fit?

They are original covers, and I have tried to tighten they with the Velcro but they still slide, as does the black foam padding.

What do you mean by " bulking up the bar" at the ends. I don't understand.

When we sail in stronger winds and the boat heals over, our backrests often end up being dragged through the water, or hit by the waves. Then the backrest padding and cover always slip backwards and around the bend.
-In our case the padding and cover move together.
- Is that what you are talking about, or is it just the cloth cover?

I agree, it's a pain to have to pull it back up all the time. If Hobie could come up with a way to prevent that, it would be appreciated, but I'm not sure what it would be.

I wrapped some sports tape around the bar near the ends of the backrest and foam meet. The friction from the tape prevents the foam from sliding back and out of place.
