]We live in Michigan and purchased a Hobie wave this summer. We plan to leave it out for the winter. We are on lake Huron and see many other sail boats out all winter. Should we take the mast down and what about the tramp? Will covering it give it much protection? Anything else we should be aware of?? Thanks |

Take mast down and store it hanging in the garage. Id take the tramp off too. You dont want to risk getting water in the mast and having it freeze=new mast. I store mine under a plastic carport with my kayaks. |

Part of the reason I got a Wave was so I wouldn't have to look at it deteriorating outside over the winter like I did with my old Laser II. It came apart really easily, no single part weighs more than 80 lbs, every last part fits nicely in our 16 ft shed (it doesn't even monopolize all the space), where it will spend the winter nice and dry - if a little cold in our eastern Ontario climate. I did have to tame the clutter a little in that shed. You may not have the option. |

I leave my Wave on the lake shore for the winter, covered; but I do hang the mast sections & rudders/tillers in my garage. I also lay my kayak upside-down on the cross bars, to form a tent with the tarp, so the snow doesn't lie on the trampoline. If you have to leave the hulls outside, just make sure they're drained, and secure the boat and tarp against the strong winter winds. I'm guessing the weather on Lake Huron is more harsh than what we get in central Indiana. |
