Cool! It looks like you had your new set up with the jib traveller moved forward about 1 foot. Although the video speaks for itself, do you have any observations on the pros/cons of the new location? Norm |

The biggest observation is that I wish the luff of the jib was about 10 inches longer. Like a bonehead I went and put the battens in before I really experimented with it. I really want to add to the bottom but it's a lot of deconstruction to do. Mostly time involved. Also, I need more mast rake and the shrouds are maxed out at the bottom hole. The only time I move that thing is when it's blowing 15-20 or more and I've found the factory Ronstan mainsheet blocks suck. I'm looking for a Harken 6:1 from a H16 or similar. So, custom made shrouds(shorter), at least a 10 hole adjuster on the forestay and a Harken 6:1 would really enable insane speed and control while reducing the tendency of it pitchpoling in big air. I know I can pick up the Harken's around $150-200 in perfect condition and the shrouds and adjuster are cheap relatively. |

You don't think the 6:1 is overkill? I still have the stock, but have heard about the wave-specific set-up marketed by Harken at 4:1 http://www.harken.com/blocks/hobiewave.php. |

I very rarely sail in light air and the nature of this place is that it will gust outta nowhere to 34 or more with no warning when blowing a 15-25 sustained. Something to do with the mountains and terrain I think. That Harken setup looks sweet and I didn't realize it was that cheap. I would like to see some reviews of it and it looks like it's a really nice option. I'm trying to reduce fatigue in my hands as I'm out 4-5 hours sometimes. I never ever sail with the mainsheet cleated in big air because of the gusty nature. That looks like the way to go and thanks for the link! I also heard the "Salsa" line is what most people use although it's not the line that bothers me. Mostly the tension under load. It looks like the cost would be around $200 including shipping for that setup. Looks like it would enable maximum mast rake as well. +1 on the hand fatigue. Standard 4:1 blocks have always seemed light for a high wind situation. Maybe the Harken 4:1 with bigger blocks are some extra control but not too much? But not going to spend big bucks to find out... (Isn't that always the pickle!) Thought about putting mainsheet setup from FX on the Wave on a high wind day just for the fun of it. Talk about overkill. I have used Salsa and rejected it. The stock line was easier to hold on to, I thought. |

Hey JJ, You've got an FX? You lucky dog!!!Thanks for the input on the salsa and blocks. Won't waste my money or time. My biggest concern would be the much lower ratio of a 6:1 wouldn't allow me to ease the main enough without letting out a huge amount of line. The factory blocks release around 4 inches of travel for every foot or so of sheet I release. A 6:1 would only release about 2 inches. When I had the 16 I would have to dump a ton of line in a huge gust. With the wave I'm able to just release maybe a foot or so and is so much more responsive. Usually don't even have to move when hiking out. If I had to dump a bunch of line I have to reset. PITA! Maybe I'm being too anal but I just want the best comination wihtout wasting my money. After a couple of hours in that my hands get a little baked. That I think is the best setup from all my research. I would love to hear from someone who has actually tried that system and the reasons (in detail) why they liked it or hated it. That's what I'm leaning towards! Thanks "hobiesrock"! Looks compact enough to allow maximum downhaul and rake while keeping the ratio high enough to fine tune the sheet without having to grossly reset in a monster puff. Steve |

Steve, I have that Setup from Catsailor....Its the Cats Meow for sure....Wouldn't never go back to the original setup....Also the Salsa line is the ticket..8mm....The smaller line runs quicker and you can wrap it once around your hand to pull if you need to, it will run free that way too. ....Its like power steering for sheeting...its Sooooo Smooooth. Put the ratchet on for heavy air and you can leave it cleated in blocks...Just a flip of the wrist and out of the cleats it comes....I played with angle of my cleats some to get it where, If a Gust hits, all I do is pull the line down toward the tramp and it comes un cleated...I really don't have to flick my wrist...to cleat I have to raise my arm some. I race my boat mostly...and most of the racers use this setup...Big advantage is you can rake your mast back more and not have a Block to block scenario like with the originals....more rake, more pointing... Probably the Best thing I added to the boat was those blocks ....Here I am in action..I need to add seat belt next They are GREAT Boats
