Hi everybody,
I'm new at this forum.
I'm going to buy a Wave in few days.
I just have a doubt regarding the mast.
I heard about a version with a separable mast in more sections for easy handling over a top of car.
Is that good like the "one piece' mast?
Has it the same performance of the other and is it fully waterproof?
Thanks to everybody who can give me suggestions.
Stefano

You must be looking at a French made version maybe? In the US production... all Wave masts are two piece. The upper section is a Fiberglass "CompTip".

Hello Stefano your name is Italian maybe write from Italy? I have a Hobie Wave with the French version must in one piece. The must is all aluminum very durable and totally waterproof, in short, is very well done. Stefano as you can read from my signature I am Italian and I assure you that the Wave is really a fantastic catamaran. If you do not need to load the Wave on the car you must highly recommend the French production. A hug.

Hi thank you all fo answering so fast!!!!
Yes I'm going to buy an European version from France.
Is that different?
I have seen some differences for example on on the tiller (Stick).
To the Italian guy from Bologna: any suggestions for me? Is the Wave such a good boat?
I'd like to move the Wave once a year from the beach to my house for winter storage.
I heard about the fact that the separable mast is more rigid than the one "piece only".
Thank you again to everybody

The French version is a bit different. They get the hulls from the US. The do their own mast, forward crossbar, sails, blocks, trampoline...

Future versions will likely be closer, but maybe still not the same as the EU has specific flotation and testing requirements that we do not.

Wave is really solid and fun.
The Wave was designed by Morelli / Melvin Engineering Company and has proven to be very popular among the beach resorts is often praised for being rugged and easy to navigate.
The Wave is a boat not very fast and not very powerful in comparison to the standard catamaran. I assure you that you will spend days and days to sail with your Wave.
I would recommend it.

It's a great boat for sure!

To be clear... they assisted Hobie in the design with some marine engineering and testing, but it was really a design team that developed the boat. I was on that team and did on-the-water testing with Peter. We were comparing Hobie 14 performance to prototype hulls they would come up with. I was involved in the function of easy rigging too and conceived the quick release trampoline system for the Classic version among other features. A contracted graphic designer, John Wake and Hobie staff had a lot to do with the final look and function. It was a typical Hobie design team effort. We include many voices when designing products here.

Hi Stefano,

I own an European Wave with two piece mast. Both mast sections are made of aluminum and once put together you would not notice its two piece. The joint is very tight but on the other hand very easy to take apart (no tools needed). I agree with the previous posts that the mast is very well designed. I decided for two piece mast for the same reason as you mentioned so that I am able to transport my Wave on the car. I keep the boat at home and I often go sailing on two or three day trips down to Adriatic. I feel more comfortable without any trailer behind as the roads downthere are much narower than in the US and I pay less for the ferry.
