Can someone comment if water in the mast will weaken the mast?
I just purchased a 2006 Wave and hadn't noticed there was water in the mast until after the purchase was finalized.
The mast safety plaque says it is aluminum so if this is just rain water or condensation build up, would this weaken the mast? The boat was stored in a garage and the previous owner lives on a lake so I can't believe this could be corrosive salt water in the mast. My assumption is that it was outside over the summer(s) and collected rain water through the top plug.
I read the post regarding how to remove the water by drilling a small hole and then reseal or installing a drain plug if needed and I will solve the issue with water problem.
My main concern is whether the strength of the mast could have been compromised. Besides my own safety, I have two young children that will be sailing with me. Being a novice Hobie owner with a used boat I'm wondering if the mast could possibly snap under sail.
By the way, I have ordered all new mast shrouds, bridles, etc plus new tramp ropes. Any other suggestions I should replace?
Thanks

Not likely compromised by fresh water inside.
