Post subject:  Replacing Seat Pads - Removing old contact cement question.

I'm replacing the seat pads on my Wave: I've removed the old pads and before attaching the new ones, I'd like to remove the old contact cement from the hulls so that I'll have a clean bonding surface.

What can I use to remove the contact cement without damaging the hulls?

You can get contact cement off of glass by rubbing over it with plain old salad oil and then washing it with soapy water. Since it's only oil and soap, it can't hurt to try at least in a small spot. Something about rubbing the oil into the cement makes it lose it's sticky-ness.

If the surface is fairly smooth and you are going over it with a new pad, it might not be worth worrying about any way. Just a thought.

I like to use old fashion elbow grease and a sharp scraper. The cement is probably becoming brittle and will easley peal right off...
