If you race me with the backrest on your Wave, you would lose the race big time!

That is just reaching for top speed. Nothing wrong with that...it just isn't "racing".

Racing is around a course that includes all points of sail, and has other boats in the way that you have to deal with.

The point is the that the backrest on his Hobie Wave would slow him down considerably.

Yeah, but one things's for sure, I'd be more comfortable.

Yes, most certainly.

No, not true. The back rests don't slow you down. If you've never used them, and have become experienced with them, how can you comment.

Like I said a few posts ago, I wouldn't have a Wave without back rests.

I hike fine with them. My wife of 100# sits atop of them occasionally, (but Hobie doesn't recommend this.)

Kids love them, and they don't slow you down.

I have no stake in whether you buy them or not, but the back rests are the best ad-on feature for the Wave and I've owned two Waves since 2000. And by the way Admiral, I'd beat you too, with or without my back rests.

You believe that....Seriously??

There are plenty of opportunities for you to back that up.

We just had the Hobie MWE in Ocean Springs. Madcatter is in May. The North Coast Championship at Put-In-Bay is in August. Nationals in Islamarada in December.

You may want to start making plans.

Have you ever owned or used backrest on your Wave?

I was skeptical of the back rests initially. I was concerned about hiking out, and they do restrict you some, but it's not as significant as you may think. I'm 170 and have never had a problem keeping the boat flat. We sail off shore at Charleston, not just the harbor. There's always decent wind and chop and swells and I always use the back rests.

Look at Creative's video, he's almost sitting behind where the back rest would be.

I think you should find a boat with them, try them and I think you'll become a convert. It's a no brainer to me. But they're more fun when you're out with someone else or kids.

I do use the back rest on my Wave for my mom & kids. (See attached video) In the video you can see how the back rests drag in the water and slow you down. They also inhibit your ability to move your body weight around.
