One major thing to take notice of is that the back of your kayak is submerged while underway. Over time water will leak in through the rear hatch and your kayak will begin filling with water which will get exponentially worse with more water
I have a tandem island and decided to sit on my bait tank while motoring and did not notice the rear being submerged. When I came back to shore I had quite a bit of water inside the yak. Which I had never had a problem with until I shifted my weight back by sitting on the bait tank. Would probably be better to sit on the tramps. Maybe my rear hatch just leaks more then it should, I'm not sure. I have installed a bilge pump since then. Be careful and keep and eye on it
You are correct about that rear port. It's very important to clean the gasket and lube each trip for maximum seal since it will be under water. About mid trip or 2 to 3 hours in we pump out any leaked hull water by shifting weight around to get water to front port or rear port out of the water. With the motor on the AI, I am limited with the weight of any additional passenger. I see a TI in my future.
