An advantage that Hobie Kayaks equipped w/ the Mirage Drive is that you can "Peddle" in the same place and stay in the "zone" longer.

Here in SF, there's excellent fishing under the GG Bridge by either tower. The problem is that there's usually a strong current that would tire conventional kayakers, but w/ the mirage drive you can hover over the target zone and fish.

Cast into the current and as the lure sinks, it'll be directly under your yak. I usually use a 6 oz large purlple scampi w/ gold flakes and pull up monster lings. You'll want to use a weight heavy enough so that you can "tick" along the bottom.

The reason why you want to cast into the current rather than just drop straight down is that you want to keep you line verticle. If you dropped straight down, the current would take the lure behind your yak, thus increasing the chances of gettin snagged.

Also, I suggest using braid line. The smaller diameter will allow you to use a lighter weight and the increased sensitivity will let you feel the structure much better.

Just bang the lead head off the rocks and the noise will usually attract predators. As soon as you get "bumped" swing for the fences as rockfish, cabbies and lings like to take you straight down into the rocks.
