We were extremely excited about flying down to Rancho Leonero Resort on the East Cape of Baja Sur, Mexico, for six days of kayak fishing. Two Hobie Pro Anglers equipped with bait tanks and fish finders along with a Hobie Revolution had been shipped down to the resort a week before our arrival. A taxi picked us up from Los Cabos airport and the hour long ride to Rancho Leonero Resort was filled with anticipation of warm water and exotic fish species. The friendly staff showed us to our air conditioned room where we prepared our tackle and the kayaks for the exciting days of fishing that followed.
We loaded the kayaks and gear on to a panga that dropped us off in a fishy area where we spent our first day. Our bait tanks were loaded with sardines and a few cabajitos that produced three dorado and a nice pargo.
In the days to follow we fished hard launching from the beach in front of Rancho Leonero Resort and using a panga to transport us and our kayaks to areas that were out of our pedaling range.
We caught numerous dorado, pargo, yellowfin tuna, roosterfish, jack crevalle, snappers, cabrilla, sipjack tuna and a variety of other species. Jeffrey Fortuna, our photographer, took these outstanding pictures:
We left the Pro Anglers and Revolution at Rancho Leonero to add to their existing six Hobie kayaks for guests to use, so if you are feeling up to the challenge the kayaks can be rented at the resort. Check out their website:
