fishing question

Hi Everybody, I got a basic questions and when i browse through sites i see some really nice fish being caught. Now this brings me to some very basic questions for you I hope you can answer. My family and I are very new to fishing we have come from outback Queensland in australia with no ocean in site. So now we moved to Townsville and everyone of us all love fishing but we say boating because most time never even get a bite. So here are some of my questions. I hope this don't open up a can of worms but we would truly like to learn.

How do I set up a line to troll?

What do you use as bait that you found works best in aus?

how do you set up the tackle on your line?

How is the easiest way to get bait as that you stuff you buy not real nice?

because i want to improve from boating to catching a feed for my family as i love to fish or should i say wet the line.

You're not getting much action on the answers to your questions, are you. Probably that most of us don't have a clue as to how to fish your waters.
My suggestion Toni would be to do lots of research on the web for fishing info in Australian waters. There is a plethora of sites for fishing...in this country especially, and probably the same would hold true in your country.
I hope you won't think badly of us here, just probably not many of the guys could answer your querys.
I might add that you could get some ideas to rigging by going through the fishing kayak forums and looking at the pic's that have been posted with regard to rigging.

Having it be that I'm not from that portion of the world if I was there on a vacation and I did not have a clue as to what to use or where to go I'd start with cut strips of squid(fish candy) look for kelp or sea-grass fish just below it and fishing is just that catching a bonus.

If you haven't already, it might be worth while joining up to one of the Australian kayak fishing forums. (Such as the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum - AKFF, or Kayak Fishing Down Under - KFDU)

You will usually get answers to questions within hours, if not minutes. I'm on AKFF and they (we) are a really friendly, helpful bunch who make people feel welcome, and I haven't seen a problem that hasn't been resolved or assisted with.

That's not to say that this forum isn't friendly or helpful (it is!) but the Australian forums may be more useful helping with Australian based questions.

Don't know much about fishing down under, but this may help. Up here in the USA, fish that you catch cost about $300 a pound and the one's you can get in the market cost about $3.50 a pound.

Aussie Chick, I'd suggest to have a look at my website, yakabout.com.au. Its aussie based, full of info about fishing from kayaks, has trip reports from around the east coast of Australia, including townsville, so you'll get a few tips there. Spend some time looking through the articles section for info on various topics, and be sure to check out the video section - you'll get to see lots of kayak fishing in action (big and small fish) and will get plenty of ideas just watching them.
