I recently found a disturbing crack in the hull of my Hobie Sport. The cracks occurred recently in the location of the tankwell. When you place the bigger, longer fishing crates (modified milk crate to hold your rods and gear) the pressure from leaning against the crate forces the 2 lower corners of the crate to crack the tankwell. This has happend w/in 1 year of my purchasing my kayak.

I've contacted my Hobie Dealer who in turn contacted Hobie. Hobie has replied to them that this is NOT covered by my warranty. As you may understand, i'm very upset about this, especially since I was told that the rear tankwell of the Hobie Sport was designed to accommodate the longer crates.

I'm placing my complaint on the Hobie forum for other to see if they are contemplating purchsing a Hobie Sport for fishing. I'll let you know if Hobie does really support their products.

Warranty Claim?

I understand from our warranty manager that NO warranty claim was received for this boat. Merely a phone call from a dealer with somewhat obscure description and no details about the issue or the boat. Sounded to him like a wear issue that would likely not be covered and that was how it was left.

We would need Model, Serial number, A description of the issue and some photos. If the boat is toast, maybe a section of the plastic in the area. Who knows. It could be thin or brittle... or the crate may have just been too sharp and abrasive.

Have the dealer submit an actual claim with all of the details.

Matt,

I'll call my dealer and tell them what you posted. Maybe they just brushed me off and hope i'd go away or they just passed on what your warranty mgr told them.
