I have a 2008 drive and and have never had any problems. I kayak the Weeki Wachee River, Fl at least 2 times a week. Suddenly it is making a loud clicking noise everytime I pedal. Everything is tight and lubricated. Any suggestions about what is causing this?
thanks, manatee mama, Joyce

It's hard to say what is causing the clicking sound if everything is tight and lubricated. I would take it in to your Hobie dealer and let them have a look at it.

Check the pedal bearings for play or flat spots. Might be a good place to start if the rest of the drive seems tight?

Pearly,

You're not alone. My 2009 peddle assembly clicks too, right out of the box. It's not bad, but annoying when I bare down for speed. Let us know how you fix the problem.

You have the last of the v-1 (non-threaded) sprockets. Take the fins off and make sure the masts are not rotating, wiggling or wallowing; are fully seated and the Allenhead screws are tight. If not, re-seat and tighten the Allenheads using ample Locktite blue (to help hold them in place) and inspect periodically. If you find any wiggling or looseness of the masts, you should replace the sprockets or (a less expensive alternative) epoxy the masts back in using Loctite Marine epoxy (or equivalent).

Whether or not this solves the clicking problem, it needs to be done periodically to insure the mast doesn't eventually fall out. 8)
