Sorry I know this is an stupid question, I'm probably going to be taking my kayak fishing this weekend or the next for the first time, I'm going to be installing some Scotty rod holders with extenders, I plan on doing some trolling, are these things strong enough to take a big hit while trolling?

I'm in Costa Rica, so I'm probably (hopefully) going to get hit from some large rooster fish or dorado (mahi mahi?)

So I'm worried about getting a strike only to see my rod fly out into the ocean.

Thanks in advance
Dan

Leash the rods to the hull and don't tighten down the drag too much when they're in the rod holders. Works for me on an AI, even at sailing speeds.

Thanks for the tip, I just ordered three rod leashes and a paddle leash from a local WA company: http://www.rodleash.com/index.htm
