We came up with a nice solution for our clients who hated to drill holes in their new Outback for using the ram-mount rodholder.
A seagraded aluminium shaft with a 1"ball wich can be inserted in the standard Hobie rodholder, the ball can be used with different RAM rodholders but also for the use of ram fishfindermounts.
They can be bought in our webshop www.hobiekayakshop.nl and there is also an artikel on our website www.viskayaks.nl

Thats a nice looking set-up I did something smilar on my kayaks using a piece of plastic that fits into the rod holder holes it gets glued into place with hot crafters glue and then I use the RAM ball mounts that expand and put those into the location that suits my day on the water.

I'll get another of the plastic pieces and post a pic here of it.

The custom adapter is very nice indeed...

RAM Mounts also makes a simple round, flat base. I've used them before and used the 3M "exterior" (gray colored) double sticky foam tape. It works well if applied to a clean surface.

This is an option I tried also thought it never happens I always feared a big pike would rip it off during trolling with lures.
The nice thing with the alu insert is that you can change quick from site to site.
I always troll with 2 rods one in the rodholder and one in the hand.
For speedtrolling for seabass I use my sail so the quicker I can handle my rods the better . because with sailing and fishing I have a lot on my hands
The second thing I really like about it, is that it let the rod stand higher then with the base on the boat. It makes it easyer to use the mirage drive with the butt of the rod above my legs

viskayaks; There is a new company that sells mounting units etc etc for kayaks in which you might be interested. They are from New Zealand (all their stuff is made there and NOT in China) called Railblaza. We have a dealer here and I just saw some of their stuff last week. It is very good quality. Their goods look like a "new and improved" version of Scotty stuff which is able to be interchangeably mounted and has been the standard for years. No, I have no shares in the company, I just was very impressed with their product. Regards....
