Fishfinders

I have a 2010 hobie outback and am looking to put a fishfinder on it. Before anybody asks im looking to spend the least amount possible.But that does not mean i willnot spend if i have to i rather spend more now then spend a little now only to find i shouldnt have spent more in the 1st place. Right now i fish mostly the inlets and back bays here in NJ. Im hoping to start to do some ocean fishing. So my ques is what should i be looking for in a FF (GPS,1 BEAM OR 2) And also what units are you guys happy with.

rubone47; Are u looking just to get home(my,small handheld,B&W,Etrex works for me) or do you want all the bells & whistles and downloaded maps???My Humminbird 180, tri beam is also quite efficient, functional, and easy on the pocketbook. (Although if I received a colour GPS with an integrated side imaging sonar, as a gift, I certainly would not turn it down!!!) Regards.....

I'm also interested in a FF. I was looking at the portable models to avoid having to put too many holes in my Tandem Island. Anyone have experience with one or more of these?

I installed one of these on a ram mount.
Eagle Cuda 350 S/Map GPS/Fishfinder

The transducer is mounted in the yak, for "through the hull" use.

The Depth/Fish Finder and GPS all work very well for me.

These are running between $170 and 200 each...

I got the Humminbird Fishing Buddy 141c and am putting together a mount for my Tandem Island. I'm going out on the Columbia tomorrow with a guide for Salmon and some education in finding and catching in the area. I'm hoping in the next week or so to take the TI out and try my luck on my own. I'll post a report.

Depending on the fishfinder you select, there are two different mounting options and two different installation options offered on page 25. It's all there and easy to do. most Hobie dealers will do the install for you too.
