I found a source for a battery holder that will carry 10 AA batteries. It is fairly sturdy. The company is Thomas Distributing. Their site is http://www.thomasdistributing.com or you can reach them at 800-821-2769. The item number is MS-BH-10-AA. Price is $2.30. When you place your order, you specify what type of connector you want. I chose a 9V-style snap connector. This works great with the "hard cap" 9V connectors you can buy at any Radio Shack (see picture). I use Lenmar 2700 mHh rechargables bought at Frye's (but the labels shrink/come off). This will give you 12+ volts.

I'm looking at this 12v, 10 amp setup that comes in a waterproof Pelican box with a deck connector already rigged up. For $90, this is pretty close to what the parts would cost separately, but I don't have to put it together - bonus. I wish it came with a charger, but they have a 1 amp charger on the site for $30. I'm planning to conntect this to a new Humminbird 385ci DI I'm getting in the next couple of weeks. I'm going with a Mad Frog Libertor Mini for mounting the head unit and deploying the tranducer beside my PA.

I have used the 12v (deer feeder style) sealed gel option for over 3 years now. My first setup included a Pelican box, but that added significant weight in the bow of the kayak. With the rear twist and seal hatch unused on my current Hobie Revo 13, I opted for a large gear bucket install and use the rear hatch to stow my battery now. I opted for the Hobie Large FF install kit that includes several of the components that I was going to need for my FF install.
