Headed out last night to the HRBT to fish with my buddy PhillyJoe for some more Kayak Wars points. Ran into Kingrat while I was out there. Ended up catching a handful of 12-15" blues, one small croaker and a nice 24" striper. Joe caught 2 points eligible fish as well, a 24" and a 34" beast that he fought for 5 minutes.

Here's the 34" Joe caught.....

And the 24" I caught......

The 24" striper I landed was a blast on the light tackle I was using - the combo I used was my smallmouth/speckled trout rod: TFO G. Loomis Signature Saltwater Series Medium power, FAST action spinning rod paired with a Daiwa Regal 3000 and 30lb PowerPro braid. I caught the 24" on a Berkley Powerbait curly tail grub I had been soaking in the Gulp Alive formula for a few hours prior to launch. Not really sure the Gulp formula really helped, since I basically dropped it almost on his nose when I made the cast.

Very nice. I just started using the TFO rods and love them.

Great job. Looks like a lot of fun. For night fishing do you run the red and green nav lights on your kayak or just the all round white light?

Maritime laws vary from state to state, but in VA waters, any non-powered vessel under 15' in length is required to have a white light visible at all times.

Red and green are traditionally navigational lights for power boats. I run only my YakAttack VISICarbon Pro, but I also have SOLAS safety tape and YakAttack NITEStripe kits plus a LED headlamp, LED penlight and a 1 million candle power spotlight.

Thanks for the reply. I know laws vary from state to state. I was curious if you were going beyond the minimum. Good to hear that you are. I mean if you want to wear the minimum number of pieces of flair...
