For those with this unit, what size battery or battery pack is sufficent? I ordered one from West Marine at a good price and have been reading and viewing on Youtube thru the hull install techniques. I thought I could use a 8 AA battery pack . Checked to see whAt the kayak dealer had in a ready made install kit. He's selling for 120 dollars a IIRC a kit with a waterproof box holding a rechargable 7amp/hour battery. He's telling me due to greater power demands of the color screen Elite DSI model I would need a 9 amp battery. Does this sound like overkill? If I can get 4-6 hours out of the 8 AA batery pack I'de be satisfied. I'de use rechargable AAs.
Any tips or experiances with thru the hull transducer installs anyone wants to throw in would be welcome :)
BTW , been out twice with the new to me Outback, the first trip was a good omen, lots of blues , some serious fun. Second trip , I got skunked, cant win everytime. Dont know why I waited so long to try this :)

Double A's give enough voltage when in a pack, but not length of use as your dealer noted. Next option is spare batteries and just re-load the pack when the first set runs down.

We also offer a 12v gel battery in a kit for $102 and battery alone at $51.99 (72025001)
