Post subject:  Battery for my Kayak

I've been looking to power my fish finder and compass light. I've seen a number of approaches, but all seem to be $80 to $100 to implement.

I tried Batteries Plus. For $20 per 12v battery and at least the same for the charger, I was interested.

Then I found this site. 12v 5 ah battery for under $8, and a charger, cable, and shipping all for less than $30 and I'm really happy.

I ordered today, I'll let you know.

Please let me know how the battery works out. I'll soon be getting a Fish Finder and would also like to put up a light to fish some at night. I've been thinking the same as you about the cost of setting that up. It seems it's always something we need.

Averagejoe, does those 8 AA batteries work pretty good? I thought you HAD to use a 12v for those type things. Do you know... about how many hours of operation do you get out of a charge? Thanks so much for your info! Pam
:D

Works fine. I get about 12-15 hours between recharges-that includes 6-7 with night operation (lights)

1.5 (each AA) x 8 =12volts

Ahhhh... that is good to know. I've read and seen where most only use ~one~ 12v battery.. therefore.. my conclusion.

Does your batteries sit in the charger the entire time... hooked to the FF.. or is that some other kind of hookup I need to look into? (that holds all eight together.. thus sending the 12v's to the FF). It's hard to see it in the bag. I'll have to pick up another one of those bags at Academy to use.

Thanks! That will work great!! I already have a AA charger for 4. Will just have to do it in shifts. Now.. all I need is a FF. lol

Thanks again!

I use a battery from an alarm system that is rechargeable. 12volt /7amp-hours. It will usually last all year without charging. seems to run everything ok.

Thanks Kenwood.. I already have a AA charger.. now.. I'm trying to locate the setup that averagejoe has. It's compact and fits on the underside of the lid perfect. I'm wondering if Radio Shack has something small like that? I don't really even know what they call it... (the thingy that holds the 8 batteries)
