I own 2 Outbacks and travel all over Calif. One thing i didn't relalize when i bought them was they stack/spoon together. Very handy. When im sliding them up on top of my 4Runner they sit side by side perfectly. Now the fish finder. This little goody is a great option but not the "ball mount". It's the only thing that gets in the way loading/stacking. Seen most others have there's in the same place. Problem solved. Removed ball mount & remounted it in the recessed tray. Bingo ! Now when the kayak is being installed or removed from my veh. it slides freely. Called the kayak shop that mounted it to suggest new location but they closed. Heads up those of you who are thinging of installing one of these. Before you let someone put holes in you Yak. do the home work. I'm much happier with it back 4" in the TRAY & out of the WAY :D

I just shoot through the hul, put the battery in a dry bag in the front hatchl and pull the transducer and battery cables through the front hatch (and then close it). I then have the head unit mounted on a piece of wood and bungeed to the front hatch. I attach the bungee hooks to the hinges bungess and the loop is attached to the normal front hatch bungee closure element (I do not use the closure bungee attached to the front hull). No drilling, no fuss, great performance, no commitment. I think it is the best solution, but to each their own. You can probably see it in most of my fishing posts.
