I have an outback which I think has a similar deck to the Kona. Below are some pics so you can see where I mounted some rod holders. I used Scotty's flush mounts with an extender and a gear head to give me a lot of spatial flexibility as to where the rod ends up. This might be in the way of paddling, but at least you can get a sense as to how they look on the deck. If the Kona is pretty different in terms of the deck space then this is all meaningless. Maybe someone who knows can clarify this.
I am not sure how well you can tell but I have the Scotty's installed on each side just ahead of the built-in rod holders. For me this was a good spot (I am 6'4" with long arms for my height). The flush mount Scotty's do fit nicely on the outback deck. I hope this is useful.
