Post subject:  Rigging a Kona?

Hi All,
I'm new to this kayaking stuff and just bout a Hobie Kona tandem. I wanted something I could troll around the lake with my little girl, but also want to fish out of it when I'm alone.

So I'm ready to start rigging the Kona. Are there any ideas of what rod holders to use and where? I prefere a flush mount, but want to make sure the surface area is big enough for the mount.

I'm looking for ideas on rigging tackle boxes, etc. I'll be doing bass and perch fishing mostly. Thanks for any help.

I have an outback which I think has a similar deck to the Kona. Below are some pics so you can see where I mounted some rod holders. I used Scotty's flush mounts with an extender and a gear head to give me a lot of spatial flexibility as to where the rod ends up. This might be in the way of paddling, but at least you can get a sense as to how they look on the deck. If the Kona is pretty different in terms of the deck space then this is all meaningless. Maybe someone who knows can clarify this.

I am not sure how well you can tell but I have the Scotty's installed on each side just ahead of the built-in rod holders. For me this was a good spot (I am 6'4" with long arms for my height). The flush mount Scotty's do fit nicely on the outback deck. I hope this is useful.

Thanks for the pics and info PDXFisher. They were useful and has given me some ideas.

I believe the deck width isn't quite as wide in some areas of your Outback but I believe I can get away with some flush mounts. I really don't want any non-flush mounts along side or just in front, due to needing to paddle.

Nice rig, btw....given me some ideas and some direction. :D
