Hey all,

I met up with a mix of kayak and PB friends on Saturday to check out a new-to-me section of the lower Willamette for some sturgeon fishing. The river was high and there was quite a bit of junk (trees, branches, etc) coming down the river. After sitting in the main current for a short bit and dodging a few trees I decided to move out of the main current into an area that was a more protected from the current.

I ended up catching 15 shakers in all, biggest one was maybe 34 or 35", one other was about 30" and the rest were only about 2' long (puny). Nothing picture worthy. I did have a monster on for about 30 seconds. It swam towards me on the bite and when I finally was able to tighten up on it, it took off like a freight train. Unfortunately, the hook pulled out during that first run. I think the odd way it bit the hook must never have really caught well in its mouth. That big fish was my second bite of the day, so I was psyched at the time thinking I was going to get into a lot of quality fish

The other folks I went out with did better than me - catching multiple keeper sized fish. It was just not my day for quality fish.

On the way back to the launch I saw a seal or sea lion cruising around. That is the second one I have seen this fall. I am not sure what this one was feeding on - it was just cruising along the surface when I went by it. It let me get about 30' away before it disappeared.
