Surface in-line side planers 45 pound copper wire Both of the above fished together will get your line away from the boat as well as down deep. Subsurface diving planer ("slide diver" gives some interesting options) I regularly fish down to 100 feet with simple slide diver setups. Also gets your line away from the boat and down deep and also unsnaps to release line tension and pulls direct with little resistance after a fish strike. Or just some simple rod holders that point rod tips starboard and port No downriggers needed and I do operate from a Hobie Pro Angler platform! |

This is all too complicated. One line my man. When you hook those things, it it complete chaos for a few especially sailfish. I have a hard enough time keeping sailfish out of my buddy's line 50 -100 yards away. Troll two lines if you are fishing for small fish but if you have big baits out.......one line or you are asking for some trouble. Those Gogs and bluerunners will tangle you up all day long in a yak. You wont gain anything by having multiple baits out. You are fishing really clear water and they will see it whether they are 10 yards back or 50. Have one premo bait out and fight the fish and not your other gear and lines. Just my opinion.....go get em! You will get that sail the next time he pops up. It will change your life!! |

Junkie, you are absolutely right, I need to keep it simple. Here is my modified routine: 1. Troll diving plug and spoon until I hit about 60ft (that's about a mile from shore) hoping to pick up some mackerel on the way out. 2. Reel in both lines and send out the livebait, one line only. I keep this out the whole time while I go from spot to spot for jigging. 3. If I still have a bait, troll it all the way back to shore. If not, I'll just put out the yozuri again. This routine worked well for me yesterday, catch report to follow shortly. |

Sorry I wasn't thinking about trolling for sailfish. I troll 2 rods when I'm trolling for trout. I do run 2 lines in salt water at times. Usually jigging one rod with the other drifting along in the holder. |
