I have not seen this on the forum before, but trust me, it is tremendously effective. As an avid ice angler, it occurred to me that when your Hobie is parked right over say, a school of perch, crappie or gills in the grass or trees, use a very-short ice-fishing rod. If your sonar has the option, switch to Flasher mode.

Your rod tip will be right next to your gunnel. Drop your jig as close to your transducer as possible. When your jig comes into the flasher cone, you will see it going straight down. As the jig approaches the fish-school flashes, stop the jig fall and begin "teasing" with it like yarn with a cat. Quiver the jig by tapping the rod near the tip while holding the rod against the gunnel. Marabou jigs will dance slightly and "breath" seductively. You will see a fish flash rise to the jig flash. When the two "touch" drop the rod tip slightly, then strike gently. You will not "feel" the strike, but see it. Deadly.

You will have far fewer snags because you are fishing straight down into cover, and have fewer fish tangle on the retrieve because you are lifting them straight up. It is exactly like ice fishing using your Hobie as a stationery platform.

Many times I have power boaters fishing the same cover get absolutely freaked out because my catch rate may be ten times theirs. It's not rocket science, just ice fishing technology and experience used on open waters. By the way, use a large-arbor fly reel with 2-4 pound mono. That way you can strip line straight down and not off a spinning-reel spool.

Happy fishing

ACTUALLY, I WAS THINKING OF DRILLING A NICE, NEAT, ROUND, SIX-INCH HOLE JUST IN FRONT OF MY SEAT, AND TOSSING IN A FEW ICE CUBES FOR AMBIANCE!

That's got me thinking....To maximize the ice fishing season, get a side of side kicks and put hyfax under each of them and the kayak.....Use the ice chipper to do a little pole fishing across the ice for early/late season ice fishing. Imagine the crazy looks you'd get doing that

Slip some pool noodles onto your tipups, and set them afloat. Then paddle/peddle around to check them! Lol
