REI is having their Labor Day mega sell-a-thon through September 4. They have pretty good deals on kayak racks and accessories. I bought my Yakima setup there during one of these sales and saved a lot of money. I see they now carry Thule, which are also pretty good racks. |

Everyone I have talked to says the Thule and Yakima rack systems do not work well on the 1996 Taurus because of the roof curves and lack of gutters. Any other thoughts or experience with roof racks for this model car? Thanks. |

If you look around, you'll find that most vehicles no longer have gutters, including my 1990 Toyota pickup. I've seen plenty of Thule and Yakima gutterless systems around. Most aftermarket racks have a weight limit of about 300lbs. or so, even a couple kayaks is much less than that.
